Schizophrenia: A gene at 6p?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Approximately one in every 100 individuals will develop schizophrenia during the course of his or her life. The symptoms typically emerge in the late teens and twenties: schizophrenia disrupts an individual’s thought processes, perceptions, emotions and behaviour. Sufferers lose touch with reality, developing false beliefs (delusions) and experiencing abnormal perceptions — in particular, auditory hallucinations or ‘voices’. They may also show poverty in the amount and content of speech, poor working memory, and inappropriate mood and behaviour. The frequent hospitalizations, profound psychosocial impairment, and high incidence of suicide ensure that schizophrenia is a major public health concern.

Association study between schizophrenia and the DISC1 gene polymorphism
Abstract Background: The disrupted-in-schizophrenia 1 (DISC1) gene, on the chromosome position 1q42, was initially identified at the breakpoint of a balanced translocation, t(1,11)(q42.1q14.3), which segregated with major mental disorders in a large Scottish family. Methods: Our samples included 200 unrelated patients diagnosed with Schizophrenia on the basis of DSM-IV criteria an...
متن کاملThe genetics of schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia is a complex biological disorder with multifactorial mode of transmission where non-genetic determinants are also play important role. It is now clear that it involves combined effect of many genes, each conferring a small increase in liability to the illness. Thus no causal disease genes or single gene of major effects, only susceptible genes are operating. Given this complexity,...

The aerial parts of Salvia glutinosa afforded in addition to lupeol, a - and ? - amyrin a furanosesquiterpene, its structure being established by high field NMR techniques. The relative configuration at C-1, C-10, C-4, C-5 and C-6 of 6?tigloyloxyglechomafuran 1 was determined by the observed NOE'S
متن کاملStudy of the association between DRD2 Gene Ser311Cys and GSTM1 Gene polymorphism in Schizophrenia
Introduction: Schizophrenia is a mental disorder affecting 1% of the world's population. Two of genes have been recognized to be involved in development of this disease: DRD2 and GSTM1. Methods: This case-control study included 100 patients suffering from schizophrenia who referred to Yazd Neuropsychiatry Hospital. Also, 100 healthy patients without schizophrenia were selected as the control g...
متن کاملIn Silico Whole Genome Association Scan for Murine Prepulse Inhibition
BACKGROUND The complex trait of prepulse inhibition (PPI) is a sensory gating measure related to schizophrenia and can be measured in mice. Large-scale public repositories of inbred mouse strain genotypes and phenotypes such as PPI can be used to detect Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs) in silico. However, the method has been criticized for issues including insufficient number of strains, not cont...
